Our Mission Statement.
Based in Sussex, in the south east of England, we are primarily a historic metal window restoration company. English Heritage has commissioned, inspected and approved our in-situ restoration, ex-situ restoration and new replica window methods on listed building projects. We regularly work on Grade I and Grade II listed buildings. We restore all types of historic metal windows dating from the 16th century onwards, including wrought iron, cast iron, cast steel, hot rolled steel and aluminium section windows such as QUICKTHO. We also manufacture new replica metal windows to match existing historic windows exactly when required. We also restore stained glass windows and leaded lights, replace lead cames, and make new stained glass windows and leaded lights to match existing ones where required.
We work with commercial and domestic clients across the UK. On large commercial projects we work with Tier 1 construction companies such as Morgan Sindall, Willmott Dixon and MACE. We look after well known institutions including Marlborough College, St Hilda’s College Oxford and Brighton College, and we hold staff letters from Buckingham Palace, where members of our welding team worked on the palace. We specialise in the low temperature welding processes that historic metal windows require, and we are one of the only companies in the UK able to low temperature weld and restore historic windows of all metals.

Steel Frame Window Refurbishment is a professional, reliable and friendly team, offering tailored refurbishments delivered to high standards. With experience in the construction industry and in conservation, we have shaped our practice around guidance from Historic England and SPAB, researching and developing our methods to deliver high quality refurbishments at a competitive price.
Our Story.
SFWR was founded by Director Paul Murphy, who brings more than 40 years’ experience in the building industry. Drawing on that experience and a passion for conservation, Paul has trained and grown a team of skilled professionals who carry out specialist conservation and refurbishment work. The team follows best practice techniques and works tirelessly to deliver sympathetic yet effective results for every client. SFWR is a family run business.
During the pandemic, the company was rebranded as SFWR Ltd (Steel Frame Window Refurbishment) so that we could look after windows and doors from all manufacturers. We also moved into a workshop in Small Dole, which allowed us to expand our ex-situ and replica services.
